Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a long-term autoimmune disease that causes the immune system to mistakenly attack the lining of the joints, leading to pain, swelling, stiffness, and inflammation. It most often affects the hands, wrists, and feet, but can affect other joints and parts of the body.
